Year 1 have been busy mathematicians this week as we explored finding quarters of a quantity!

We started by reminding ourselves that a quarter means 4 equal parts. To help us understand this practically, we used 4 paper plates to represent the 4 parts and carefully shared counting animals equally between them.

The children worked brilliantly to count accurately, share fairly and check that each group was equal. We explored different amounts and used our practical resources to help us work out what one quarter would be.

It was wonderful to see the children talking through their mathematical thinking, helping one another and using their understanding of equal groups to solve problems confidently.

A fantastic hands-on maths lesson full of practical learning and great teamwork!
